Google’s Android operating system is like leading the mid-range smartphone segment in India. The segment recently witnessed growth of new launches with most of them running on Android OS.                                                         

Though many of the features in these Android-based devices remain the same, all smartphone makers add their own USP to the device to differentiate their products  from the rest. Here is a run-down of the 8 hot mid-range Android smartphones in India.

 

 

HTC Desire C :

Powered by Android Ice Cream Sandwich, HTC Desire C runs on a 600MHz processor with 512MB RAM. It has a 3.5-inch HVGA touchscreen and features the latest HTC Sense 4.0 UI. The phone sports a 5MP camera with LED flash.

Connectivity options in HTC Desire C include Near Field Communication (NFC), Bluetooth, Wi-Fi, EDGE, GPRS and 3G. HTC provides 25GB worth of DropBox storage free with this device for 2 years. The phone comes in red, white and black colours.

 

Samsung Galaxy Ace Duos :

Samsung Galaxy Ace Duos is an Android 2.3 (Gingerbread) based dual-SIM smartphone. The smartphone features a 3.5-inch touchscreen and it is powered by a 832MHz processor supporting 512MB RAM. It has 3GB internal memory expandable up to 32GB.

The phone sports a 3.15MP camera with geo-tagging and smile detection, pre-installed document editor, and boasts of a 1300mAh battery. The other features include FM radio web browser and connectivity options include Wi-Fi, 3G, Bluetooth, EDGE.

Motorola Defy Mini :

Motorola recently expanded its portfolio of rugged smartphones in India with the launch of Defy Mini. A dual-SIM Android 2.3 (Gingerbread) phone, it is best known for its ruggedness and resistance to water and dust. The phone features a 3.2-inches touchscreen with a 3MP rear camera and LED flash, along with a front-facing VGA camera.

As for connectivity, the phone supports Wi-Fi, 3G, EDGE, GPRS, Bluetooth, microUSB 2.0, microSD card and web browser

Defy Mini in India is powered by a 600MHz processor coupled with 512MB RAM. The phone has 120MB storage capacity which is expandable upto 32GB. The company claims that its 1650mAh battery can offer standby time of more than 500 hours to the users.

Samsung Galaxy Ace Plus :

Samsung Galaxy Ace Plus is the successor of the popular Galaxy Ace The device runs on Android 2.3 (Gingerbread) and has 3.65-inch TFT display, 1GHz Qualcomm Snapdragon S1 processor coupled with 512MB RAM. Powered by a 1300mAh battery, the company smartphone offers over 7 hours of talk time on a 3G connection.

The new Samsung Galaxy Ace sports a 5MP auto focus camera with LED flash for good pictures. Bluetooth 3.0 with A2DP, Wi-Fi, document editor, image editor, 3GB memory, support for 32GB microSD card and Adobe Flash compatibility are some of the other notable features of this smartphone.

Swype predictive input in the keyboard makes messaging and emailing a piece of cake on this phone.

Spice Stellar (Mi-425) :

Indian mobile phone manufacturer SMobility offers a dual-SIM featuring 4-inch touchscreen, 1GHz processor and a 2000mAh battery. It runs on Android 2.3 OS (operating system) out-of-the-box, but it is likely to get an Android 4.0 update.

The device sports a 5MP auto-focus snapper with LED flash, while the front camera has a resolution of 0.3MP.

3G, GPRS, EDGE, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth v2.1 micro-USB are the connectivity options of the Spice Stellar (Mi-425). Buyers can keep their data on the device secure with the free NetQin mobile antivirus application. They can easily extend the 140MB internal memory of the phone, as it can support up to 32GB microSD card.

Karbonn A9 : 
Price: Rs 9,400

Karbonn A9 is next in the series of cost-effective Android phones offered by indigenous manufacturers. It is a Gingerbread-powered smartphone with a 1GHz processor and 3.8-inch screen.

The dual-SIM smartphone has 512MB RAM, 1GB internal memory, Wi-Fi, 3G, EDGE, GPRS. Buyers can even use this device for Internet tethering via USB and Wi-Fi Hotspot functionality.

The 5MP HD camera in the rear comes with auto-focus and flash support and can take panoramic shots, while the front camera can be used for video calling. Its 1600mAh battery can give standby time of up to 200 hours.
